Big Ag Spends Big Bucks to Keep GMOs in Your Food Secret
Big agricutural companies have begun to spend huge sums of money to defeat the California ballot initiative this November. If the initiative passes, it might cause companies to label GM food in the other 49 states as it would be costly to have a separate set of labels for California. Some examples of the money raised by include $250,000 by industry trade group the Biotechnology Information Organization, $310,000 from DuPont, and $126,000 from BASF. Read more…
Multistate Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Raw Tuna Grows to 425
A growing salmonella outbreak has been linked to a type of sushi called Nakochi. Currently at least 425 individuals in 28 states and Washington DC are sick, 55 of which have been hospitalized. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believe the outbreak is not over, despite the fact that additional cases will surface over the next several months. Read more…

School lunch makeover requires whole grains
New legislation mandates at least 50% of the grains served in public schools must be whole grains. These changes are part of a widespread effort by the USDA and the First Lady Michelle Obama. This will hopefully ensure decreased sugar intake and increased fiber. Read more…

State seeks input on selling raw milk
In a positive sign, the Indiana State Board of Animal Health is planning a virtual public hearing from June 1 through Sept. 1 on the sale of raw milk. Anyone can post comments or suggestions to the board, who will give their final report to lawmakers. Read more…

Finally: USDA Study Calculates True Cost Of Healthy Eating (Guess What? It’s Cheaper)
A new study calculated the cost of healthy foods and concluded whole, fresh foods are a better value than processed goods. This groundbreaking study over turned other outdated studies with flawed methodology, which seems to suggest the opposite conclusion. Raw Milk Debate Is White Hot
The fight over raw milk in America is heating up. Last week, a rally was held in front of a Minneapolis courthouse in support of Alvin Schlangen who was accused of selling raw milk to more than 100 consumers. There have been numerous reports of SWAT-style raids all over the country by FDA agents against farmers who produce raw milk.
