Genetically modified pig project loses key funding
Ontario pork farmers have pulled their financial support for a controversial Enviropig research project, Canada’s first attempt to make a genetically modified farm animal. The pigs are bred using DNA material from mice and E. coli bacteria making it easier to digest the phosphorus in corn, barley, and soybeans. $5 million has already been invested in the project.
